Assisi is a UNESCO World Heritage site, rich in history, art, and home to the Basilica of Saint Francis, where Giotto’s frescoes tell stories of faith and beauty. But more than this Assisi is a place that holds a special meaning for us. It is the resting place of many exemplary people who developed a friendship with God, and let His grace transform their ordinary life into something extraordinary.

First Saint Francis, who embraced poverty and simplicity to reveal the joy of a life rooted in love. Then, Carlo Acutis, canonised in September 2025 — the first millennial saint. It is also home to the radiant witness of Chiara Corbella Petrillo, who was married in the same church of San Pietro in 2008. Chiara’s story inspired Elena to start a search for meaning in Assisi in 2022, alongside the Franciscan friars and sisters.

This day for us is a step on a shared path — one that looks upward, toward a Love greater than ourselves, and outward, toward all of you who have shaped our lives. A step filled with gratitude, joy, and hope, as we walk together into the life we are creating, guided by the example of those who have gone before us.​
